So Mr. Kade is home!! He is doing well...slept good all night. We actually had to wake him up to eat...but we will see how long that will last! Miss Peanut (aka Kynlee) will hopefully be home this weekend! She is doing well and eating everything by mouth (through nipple no NG tube). Enjoy the pics and I will post more when Kynlee gets home!

Welcome Kade and Kynlee

Kynlee

Kade

HELLO WORLD!!
Well as most of you already know the twins are here!!! Kade and Kynlee entered the world Sunday, March 14, 2010. Kade Coleman Hays was born at 8:29 pm at 5.2 lbs and Kynlee Taylor Hays at 8:36 pm at 3.13 lbs. (little peanut!)

The story...

My water broke on Sunday afternoon st 2:00 pm while eating lunch on the back porch with Pat and his parents. Pat and I calmly finished getting our stuff pack into the suburban (most everything was already in the car from a false alarm on the previous Friday) and we headed to hospital.

(Just a little history from the week prior...as of Tuesday March 9 I was 2 cm dilated and 80% effaced...so the doctor told me that it wouldn't be too long. The specialist estimated Kade's weight at 5.11 lbs and Kynlee's weight at 4.7 lbs...a little off!!)

I was not in much pain at all on the way to hospital and I was able to walk up to labor and delivery to check myself in. We arrived at the hospital at 3:00 pm and as soon as I got into my room the contractions started...Holy Smokes!! I couldn't even hold a conversation with any of the nurses or the doctor! The contractions went from almost nothing to less than 2 minutes apart...pretty much constant.

The nurses remembered me from Friday night and they knew that since I was back...I meant business! I had 3 nurses hustling around me starting IV's, checking me in and one just holding my head on her shoulder. Pat was a good coach, but poor thing he was trying to get a hold of my parents and others letting them know I was in labor. Things were happening so quickly that he couldn't do everything fast enough!

AHHHHH...at 3:45pm I got my epidural. Drugs are wonderful, delightful, super....I highly reccomend it! (I can hardly complain about 45 minutes of true pain...) my legs were numb and heavy and I was ready for a long haul. Little did I know that Kade had other plans. By 7:50 the nurse came into my room to "check" the progress. The doctor was already on the phone because they notice from the monitors that everytime that I contracted Kade's heart rate dropped. This means that he is in the birth canal. So yes..he was crowning and we had to move to OR quickly! Twins are always delivered in the OR in case of the chance of an emergency C-section. We were rolled into the OR at 8:15 and Kade was born st 8:29 with three pushes and Kynlee 7 minutes later at 8:36 with 2 pushes! The delivery was quite easy!

After delivery I felt great until about an hour later when I developed a tightness in my chest and a pain between my shoulder blades. My blood pressure had shot up and I became Pre-Eclamptic after delivery! They ran CBC and my liver enzymes were through the roof which is indicative of the Pre-Eclampsia. The nurses and doctor believe that with liver enzymes that high, that I had to be sick (pre-eclamptic) at least a few days prior to going into labor. The "cure" for pre-eclampsia is dleviery so I guess my body was actively trying to cure itself by going into a quick labor and delivery.

The neonatologist called the twins "discordinate twins", which means that Kade was large and Kynlee was small for 35.4 weeks. He also explained that she will most likely develop quicker outside of the womb because her brother was stressing her out. When she was forced to deliver, some stress horomones were released that caused her lungs to develop and mature. All of this is a blessing in disguise. Although my babies are in the NICU...they have the best nannies in town!! They are already on a strict schedule that I will just have to maintain when they get home! ;)

Everyone is doing well and we are home now kinda. We are released from the hospital, however we live up at the NICU whenever we can! I will keep updating everyone as things progress and the babies grow!!

Here are a few pics from Day 1 and Day 4 so that y'all can see how much they have changed already!!

A Quick Update and San Antonio Showers

A Quick Update

Kade and Kynlee are doing well...no new measurements yet though. I have more doctors appointments this Tuesday and Thursday. On Thursday we will get some new measurements and their weight. At that point Dr. McFarland will make the appropriate decisions. According to the BPP and NST performed last week, they are doing just fine...heart and heart rates are good, their diaphragms are working (so they are breathing ;), brain looks good, and the placenta and cord are functioning properly. So it is still a waiting game and we are taking things week by week. At the end of this week I will post the latest updates!

Not this past weekend but the one before Pat and I had our San Antonio showers with all of our friends. They were both a huge success...we some great friends. My shower was perfect to a "T". Thank You so much Spencer, Erica, Ashley and Mindy...I love you guys! I will post some of the awesome pictures later on this week!

Pat got the "hook up" on diapers at his diaper shower. Below is a pic of some of the ones form the shower...(there were still more inside in the babies' room!!) All in all both showers were great and it was good to see friends that we haven't seen in a while! Thanks to everyone who helped out to make everything happen!

I will post more pictures and updates later this week. ~ Angel
